Welcome to the October Edition of my favourite highlights of the month!
You may or may not have noticed that I didn’t write a post for what I enjoyed about September because quite frankly September was a difficult month. Apart from one positive thing that had happened it was filled with heartbreak of having to say goodbye to my Minnie, our cat who had been with me for practically half of my life. 15 years. So, I really couldn’t get myself to look for anything positive for that month hence leading me to taking a short break from blogging.
Nevertheless, there were two positive things that had happened which I would like to share.
STARTING YEAR ONE

Miss A went back to school after the summer holidays. She has surprisingly settled in very well, I was worried remembering how her transition to Reception had been but she’s been a trooper and accepted her new teacher and new classmates happily.
Jurassic World Exhibition

We took Miss A to the Jurassic World Exhibition, to see what we got up to have a look here.
October
So, how did October go? Compared to September, it was the complete opposite. There were a lot of things that happened which kept my mind busy.
The pain of losing Minnie is still afresh and with October being the month my son was born and died, I wasn’t expecting much from it. But surprisingly it was a very memorable month that I would just love to relive it all over again.
WEDDINGS

The first two weekends of October were filled with wedding celebrations. Miss A and I along with the rest of the family had a wonderful time and enjoyed ourselves. Miss A just loves to party so she was in her element, despite the change in her routine and late nights but all worth it for the fun and laughter.
TURNING 30

October was the month I hit a huge milestone.
I turned 30!!
It was such a lovely day filled with surprises. I use to be the person who would have to throw the biggest parties for birthdays but this time round I decided I didn’t want that. I wanted something peaceful yet memorable. We went out for lunch with my Mum and Dad and in the evening a family get together. Miss A organised the evening party and with the help of my brother decorated the front room with balloons.
A month on, birthday celebrations haven’t ended as will be celebrating with my friends soon too.
THE BEST GIFT

I could not mention my birthday without appreciating this beautiful gift I received from my baby girl. She asked my brother to take her shopping and chose this. When she gave it to me her words were ‘I’m giving you this because I love you to the moon and back. The big heart is you Mummy and the small heart is me.’
Need I say anymore?
EDINBURGH

As a part of my birthday celebrations, we went on a mini break to my most favourite city, Edinburgh during the October half term holidays. If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you will know that I have already been there. So why again?
Edinburgh is a city where you can go again and again and never get bored. We had such a lovely time and I wish we had stayed longer. Now that I’m back we’re already planning to go back but for much longer so we can explore the rest of Scotland too.
FOOTBALL

I finally enrolled Miss A into an extra curricular activity. She started towards the end of September, in the beginning she was nervous but eventually came out of her shell.
We’re two months in now and I can see how much she has developed her ball control skills and more importantly her confidence.
BONUS FAVOURITE
GOLD AWARD

I could not end this post without mentioning this! Miss A received a Gold Award in school! For excelling in Phonics and Maths. She was so happy and especially couldn’t stop telling me how the headteacher called out her name in front of everyone in assembly.
We also had her first parents evening of year 1 which went really well. It was the complete opposite of a year ago when she started reception. Back then, Miss A was having a hard time settling in and didn’t like joining in everyone.
But now it’s the opposite.
It’s moments like these that make me realise how much we expect from our children. The best thing to do is let them develop and excel at their own pace.
