May is always a difficult month for me since it was the month of May in 2020 that our lives changed forever and I became a single mother. However, the amount of amazing memories we’ve been able to make this month thanks to my family and friends, are unforgettable.
I’m so grateful to have people around us who love and care for us.
EID

May kicked off with the big Eid celebration on May 2nd which also ended up being a Bank Holiday for everyone in the U.K. win win! Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan where everyone comes together, wear their finest, exchange gifts and/or Eid money.
This Eid was just extra special as it was the first Eid in two years that we got to celebrate with everyone due to lockdowns and covid. It really felt like a dream come true.
What do you think of my cake?
WINDSOR CASTLE

As you will probably know I’m a great sucker for historical sites so our trip to Windsor Castle was amazing. It felt good to do something normal. We chose to go on a Friday which happened to be Inset Day in Miss A’s school so a great opportunity to avoid the crowds.
There was a lot of media presence, as expected, due to the Platinum Jubilee.
It was amazing to see and explore the Queen’s residence and rooms nearly a 1000 year old. You’re not allowed to take pictures inside but it was surreal looking around St George’s Chapel, where Harry and Megan got married and Prince Phillip’s funeral took place. As well as the tombs of past Royals.
I definitely recommend a visit if you’re ever nearby and also have a mooch around Windsor Town.
AFTERNOON TEA

We decided to end our day in Windsor with a lovely afternoon tea at the Castle Hotel, just across the road from the Castle.
Going for Afternoon Tea had been on my bucket list of 30 Things to do Before 30. It was Jubilee themed and we had a fantastic time, A thoroughly enjoyed herself. The staff at the hotel was exceptional and so caring.
This was really out of my comfort zone as I hadn’t ‘eaten out’ since the pandemic began but was made to feel at ease.
BEACH DAY

Beach days are the best days aren’t they?
Me and my former colleague turned friend decided to take A to the beach. This was the very next day after the Windsor trip so I was a bit sceptical at first but it was just what I needed.
Sitting on beach all day doing nothing and just watching A make sandcastles. She had a fabulous time, the weather was perfect not too hot or cold.
The perfect beach temperature for me is early 20s, I cannot stand it if it’s 30 plus! I really do wish we lived within walking distance of the sea. For us, it’s around an hour and a half drive which makes going to the beach seem like an effort sometimes.
LUNCH

As mentioned above, the afternoon tea was the first time I had eaten out in over two years. I had thought that would be it for a while now but randomly on a Wednesday night, my brother messaged asking if I wanted to go out for lunch the following day.
Not going to lie, I was a bit hesitant at first as thought in a space of one week it might be a bit much for my anxiety surrounding the C word but I said yes.
I am glad I said yes, it was lovely doing something different. We went during late lunch hours and there was hardly anyone there, I don’t think I would’ve coped at peak dinner times. The restaurant staff were quite attentive with precautions and the cleaning making me feel relaxed.
Sometimes, saying yes even when you’re doubtful about something can actually prove to be just fine.
