Another year older another year wiser, is that how the saying goes? On 18th October, I celebrated my 29th birthday. I can’t believe that this time next year I will be 30 years old! That’s definitely a big one, right? Wow.
I hardly set myself any goals because I feel like if for whatever reasons I am unable to complete them, it won’t feel too good. However, when I came across Jordanne From The Life of a Glasgow Girl’s post of 30 Things To Do Before Turning 30, I felt motivated to think what I actually want to do in the next year of my life.
I wouldn’t call these goals but just a bit like a bucket list. Whether or not I manage to do everything on this list doesn’t matter to me but it will be great to look back on.
Come this time next year, I might be a totally different person with different choices and some of these might be irrelevant but we’ll have to see then, won’t we!
These are in no particular ranking, just in the order they popped into my head. You will probably find the most simplest of things on here that haven’t been possible due to COVID19 and my anxiety surrounding it.
I know lots of people have been going on holidays and staycations already since the end of lockdown. But I have yet to surpass this territory. I have only just starting to go shopping and to the office so fingers crossed I will feel comfortable enough to venture out further soon.
2. Own a Home
This is a bit of a tricky one and probably the most ambitious. I would like to get on the property ladder soon but given our current family dynamics, separation etc this might be aiming too high for the next year but there’s no harm in wishful thinking, right? You never know what’s around the corner!
3. Couch to 5K
This is something I’ve wanted to attempt for a long time. I am not the fittest person, the only exercise you will find me doing is walking on the school run.
But I would like to change that!
4. Change Careers
I can’t believe I’m writing this, I wrote a blog post three years ago about changing careers. At the time, I thought I had made up my mind but have currently come back to square one. I currently work as an administrator for the NHS but have a masters in law. Law has always been my first love and I currently feel like I’ve wasted the four years I spent at university. I don’t want to be a solicitor, I never did, but something related to my degree would be nice.
I really want to be proactive in volunteering and/or fundraising for charities. Be them local charities or online, so I hope to pursue this in the coming year and hopefully be able to give something back to the community and help make a difference.
6. Have a Facial
Sounds simple, right?
There were times when I use to have a facial quite regularly but now I can’t remember the last time I had one! I would like to take some time out and focus on my health and well being and what better way than with a relaxing facial.
7. Afternoon Tea
A lovely relaxing afternoon tea, can’t go wrong with that, right?
8. Sort Photos into Albums
This has been on my to do list since forever! I really need to stop being so lazy and get on with it! I have 19k+ photos on my phone and iCloud that I really need to sort through. I am that mum who ends up taking 10 photos of one shot but then doesn’t have the heart to delete any of them!
I have been thinking of creating an album titled ‘Five Years of Aazeen’ let’s see if I actually end up getting round to it!
9. Read 15 Books
This will be my reading goal for 2022, I had set myself 10 books for 2021 which I am on track to completing. Now that I have got myself into audiobooks, I think 15 books would be an achievable goal.
10. Attend a blogging event/conference
I guess this is all COVID19 dependent but I would really like to attend an event soon and get myself more out there. I have declined some events in the past due to lack of confidence but I want to change that.
11. Have a Professional Photoshoot
The last photo shoot I had was for my wedding 8 years ago. I would really like to have one done for myself and another one with my little girl involved too.
12. Self Publish
Did I write that correctly?
I have been working with an idea in my head for a little book for so long. Such a long time that I think if I don’t put it out there that I intend to do this I never will! If I am successful then of course you will be the first to know!
13. Start a Newsletter
I am thinking of starting a newsletter to go alongside my blog in the new year. There are just a few logistics to tackle but hopefully will get round to that soon. It does bother me though, will anyone want to actually sign up?
14. Enrol in a professional cake decorating course
If you have been following me for a while, you will know that I absolutely love baking cakes. It has become a bit of a tradition in our family that we don’t buy birthday cakes anymore, instead I bake them, apart for my own birthday of course.
So far I have baked and decorated all of Aazeen’s birthday cakes. However, I am not a professional especially when it comes to decorating. But I would love to pursue this interest of mine further and learn properly how to decorate cakes. I had actually enrolled in a class last year, however, that didn’t go ahead because of COVID19.
So let’s see if it’s possible now!
Check out all of Aazeen’s birthday cakes here.

15. Tour of Scotland
I am 100% certain that I want to go back to Edinburgh but for a longer time than last time. However, I want to venture out further and explore the beauty that is Scotland. There is just something about Scotland that keeps calling me back!
16. Social media breaks
Remember the unexpected Instagram break we all got last month? As much as that may have been annoying, I really found it relaxing. I read a little more and actually went to bed at a reasonable time! This coming year, I would like to practice this more, I think it will do me a whole lot of good!
17. Bedtime Routine
I’m a nearly 30 year old who really needs to focus on her bedtime routine!
Similarly to above, I would like to change up my bedtime routine. At the moment, I am glued to my phone binging on a show until my eyes can no longer take it.
I realise that this isn’t exactly healthy, I would like to change up my routine. After putting Aazeen to bed, I would like to watch just one episode of a show, include a little reading and skin care routine (which I lack of) and then go to sleep.
18. Treat myself
I find it hard spending on myself. I will go shopping and come home with bags and bags for things for my little one and either just one thing for myself or nothing at all. I will look at the item and really question whether I actually need it and then it remains on the rack. I would like to treat myself more.
19. Visit Harry Potter studios
Despite being a die hard Harry Potter fan since I was a little girl, can you believe I still haven’t visited the studios? I don’t know why but it has just never crossed my mind! But I do intend visit in the next couple of months! Have you been?
20. Apply to be on a Show
Whether as a contestant or part of the audience, I would like to take part on a show. I was part of the audience of The Apprentice: You’re Fired in 2016 (actually appeared on tv, the perks of sitting right behind the fired contestants family!) and honestly it was such a great experience! I would definitely like to experience that again soon.
21. Drive confidently
I passed my driving test in December 2013 but as I didn’t have the need for driving I didn’t bother. I drove again for a one or two times in 2019 but then stopped again.
Recently, my Mum changed her car and got an automatic and is on a mission to get me back into driving. I have been driving for a little bit now and honestly I didn’t think I’d ever say this but I am enjoying it! I just want to become really confident in it that it becomes second nature and I don’t have to think a thousand times before sitting behind the wheel.
22. Have a Health MOT
I can’t remember when was the last time I went to see the doctors for myself, think it was January 2019 because of the ringing in my ears. That’s good, right? However, I think having a full check up, like a full blood count, cholesterol etc check will be good to help me focus on anything that I don’t already.
23. Go to a Lavender field
Something I wanted to do this year but did not get too. So would really love to next summer!
24. Increase my DA to at least 20
Although I started my blog in 2018, it has only been four months since I got my own domain and went self hosted. In the past four months, my DA has reached 8. I’m not entirely sure whether that’s a good thing or not but I would love to reach at least 20 by October next year. Those with blogging experience, is that a realistic expectation?
25. Go on a Safari
Well it’d be a dream to go on a proper safari. But I think Longleat Safari will be great too! Especially for my daughter to experience.
26. Visit more Historical Sites
I really enjoyed being a part of English Heritage in 2019. I would like to tick more sites off my list that we didn’t get to complete.

27. Grow my Blog Subscribers
I was going to actually write ‘Grow my Blog Subscribers to 100’ but I think that’s very optimistic for me. I have a good dedicated readership but not much subscribers at all so I would really like to focus on that. Is 50 a more realistic number?
28. Decorate my bedroom and home office
I always say I’m going to do this and that to my bedroom and office but never get round to it. Mainly because l can’t make up my mind as to what exactly what I want. They only just need some simple decor items so I would really like to get on with that.
29. Take Zeen and Me to the Next Level
To be fair, I have not been able to give my small shop, Zeen and Me, much attention. I plan to change that! Currently, I’m on the search for brand reps on Instagram and I hope this will help a lot. I need to look at what is working and what isn’t so can be able to make decisions from there.

30. Put Myself First More
Truthfully, as a parent you always put your little ones first before anything. I’m not saying that I won’t be doing that, I will be. However, in other aspects of life, I am going to try to put myself, my needs and choices first. This is something that doesn’t come easy but is really needed. I always preach that if we don’t take care of ourselves first how will we take care of our family? It’s about time I started paying attention my own advice!
