Welcome to A’s three year update! That’s right my little baby is now three years old – I still find it quite hard to believe how quickly the time has flown. Just yesterday, I was going through her photos and videos from when she was a baby and I couldn’t stop myself from tearing up because honestly speaking, I still can’t believe she’s mine.
So without further ado, let’s get into this!
Eating
We are a bit hit and miss under this category, which, looking back it has always been like this. I do feel that from the beginning I may have been a bit too ‘precious’ with her and perhaps that has lead to her being fussy. To be fair, she’s not always fussy but obviously the fussy moments stick out the most.
One thing we have learnt is that she tends to become fussier when there a lot of people around – not in a restaurant setting but at home.
A major development though is she happily ate pasta! Okay, once in 6 months but it gives me hope!
Her favourites and my go to meals for her that I know she’ll eat are; veggie fritters, fish and chips, Shepard’s pie, rice, butternut squash and potato croquettes.
Sleeping
Same as last time, still by my side and we’re enjoying every minute of it. It means we can both get some good sleep so be it!
When will we move her into her own room?
Currently, we plan on moving to a bigger 3 bedroom house, whenever this will happen as there is a lot of uncertainty due to COVID19. Once we move, we’re going to decorate her bedroom, set up her bed and everything but she will only sleep in there during nap times that’s if she’s willing too. That’s the plan, whether this happens or not, we shall see!
Breastfeeding
This deserves a dedicated post as our breastfeeding journey came to an end in November 2019 after 33 months of feeding. I won’t go into detail here as I do plan on writing about it separately as it involves a lot of emotions and simply because I haven’t talked about it yet.
Development
Now where do I even begin?! At her last update, she has started to form sentences and have little conversations but we still had some babbles.
Since then, her speech has developed further, she can have a proper conversation without babbles and she has a grasp of both English and Urdu.
Currently, we are in Pakistan and I do feel that coming here has had a major impact on her understanding and speech. She has been coming out with phrases and knocking us all off our feet!
She finally has an understanding of colours for example if she sees a black cow and a white cow, she will differentiate between them. Additionally, she now has started to try and write the alphabet, we’ve currently conquered A and X – I know, how random? Her choice!
Another thing that has also come to light during our trip is how she differentiates relationships. For example; I call my mother’s friend Maamu which means brother in Urdu and we told A to call him Nana which means Grandad as he’s like a father figure to me and that’s what she calls my dad too – what does she call him? ‘Nana Maamu’ she calls his wife ‘Nanny Aunty’ and her Mum ‘Big Nanny’.
We didn’t teach her this and it still amazes me how she’s able to differentiate correctly!
School
She has been ready for nursery since quite a well and was going to start after the Easter Holidays. However, due to COVID19 that won’t be happening – we’re keeping our fingers crossed for September!
Surprisingly, I have found myself answering her questions as pretty much everyday she picks up her little backpack, puts it on and says ‘I go to school’. This breaks my heart to see how excited she was so I’ve decided that I will attempt to do regular school activities of her age with her, make a little homeschool for her just 3 hours a day. Bearing in mind, whilst also working from home 9 to 5!
I’m hoping that will keep her busy and at the same time she will be learning too but it will only be an attempt, no pressure!
*~*~*
So that’s it for now! I don’t know when her next update will be, whether in 6 months time or when she turns 4 – what do you reckon? Let me know!
