If there was one word to describe my March reading journey then it would be slump! January I read about ten books, February was also a great month with five. However, I practically lost motivation to read this month. I did manage three so I guess that’s still great, right?
I have noticed a pattern, I lose motivation to read if I end up reading a book that is just not doing it for me. In order to get me out of the slump, I require a really good engaging thriller.
So, without further ado, what were the three books that made the list this month?
REMINDERS OF HIM

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.
The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

My thoughts: Instagram made me read it! I have heard and seen so much about Colleen Hoover that I just had to give this a go. I am very cautious at approaching books that have so much hype as I worry that they won’t live up to my expectations. This was my first CH book and I really enjoyed it. Ever since becoming a Mother, I’m a sucker for books and shows that revolve around children. Reminders of Him really struck a chord with me in that sense.
I felt emotionally attached to it and was very pleased with how it ended.
THE MAGPIES

When Jamie and Kirsty move into their first home together, they are full of optimism. The future, in which they plan to get married and start a family, is bright. The other residents of their building seem friendly too, including the Newtons, a married couple who welcome them to the building with open arms.
But then strange things start to happen. Dead rats are left on their doorstep. They hear disturbing noises, and much worse, in the night. After Jamie’s best friend is injured in a horrific accident, Jamie and Kirsty find themselves targeted by a campaign of terror.
As they are driven to the edge of despair, Jamie vows to fight back—but he has no idea what he is really up against . . .

My thoughts:
This is one of those books where you have a hard time rating it. Is it a 3 or a 4? It is part of a series but can work as a standalone as you don’t get the feeling of ‘I must carry on’. It was relatable as I’m sure we have all once in a while have dealt with nightmare neighbours.
I think it was this book that helped bring about my reading slump, I would still recommend it as it is a great storyline which I reckon would make a great tv show!
A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER

The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.
But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth . . . ?

My thoughts:
OH MY GOD.
WIll this be my best book of 2022? It will surely be a contender for it! I heard so much about this from the lovely ladies at That Bookish Club that I had to give it a go. I just wanted to carry on and on. It was so very well written and if you listen to it which I did, you’ll love it even more with how it has been narrated.
The story, the characters, the setting – I honestly cannot fault it. It is part of a series and I cannot wait to start reading the next one!

Ooh great wrap up! I still haven’t read anything by Colleen Hoover but that’s definitely going to change this year, and I might just pick up Reminders Of Him now! I’m so glad you enjoyed A good Girl’s Guide To Murder too – the whole series are some of my favourite books and in my opinion they only get better! I hope you enjoy the next books, thank you so much for sharing x
