How to Get the Kids Involved in Ramadan

27 April 2020

Finally, my daughter has reached that age where she is able
to understand and take in what is going on around her. So, as Ramadan is now here,
I have decided to try and involve her as much as possible – I think it’s quite
important not only for yourself but for your child’s development to actively
involve them with what is happening around them.

Especially, now more than ever, during these difficult times
due to COVID19 – where Ramadan is no doubt going to be different during
lockdown.
Last year, A was at an age where I couldn’t do anything for
her, even though I really wanted too, as there wasn’t any point. But now that
she is three and more aware, I have decided to involve her as much as I can.
Ramadan Corner

I have turned a space of our living room into a Ramadan Corner,
decorated it with décor from EidParty.co.uk and Anafiya Gifts and tried to make
it as inviting as possible. Especially if you don’t have much space, a
dedicated corner of the room is the perfect solution.

Ramadan Countdown
Calendar

One of the most exciting parts of any festivity for children
is of course a countdown calendar. This calendar is from Mubarak Occasions and
I thought it was just perfect for A. This is because your child isn’t just
going to be taking out a treat, it can also help with learning to count and
actively involve them by adding or removing (however you like it) the stars. As
A is very fond of stars, there was no way I could not get this for her.

I bought this Ramadan Calendar from EidParty.co.uk for my nephews, every year they use to get those supermarket chocolate calendars but this year I thought something different is needed, something they can actually reuse every year.

I wrote out 30 deeds/tasks for them to do and placed 3 slip into each day so three of them have something different to do everyday. This really has become a hit and they look forward to it everyday, so much so when they wake up for Suhoor, they want to find out their task even before eating!

Ramadan Basket

Why not create a special basket for your little ones for them
to enjoy? In our Ramadan Basket, I have included several items from books to
colouring to baking – everything that I know that will catch her interest and
help her get into the Ramadan spirit. For further insight on what we have
included this check out the previous What’s In My Toddler’s Ramadan Basket post.
Praying

Praying is one of the most important factors in which you
can involve your child in. Obviously, they won’t be praying like you, or be
praying at all but it will excite them. We all know children love to copy
adults so just let them imitate you and make them feel special.
I also got personalised prayer beads made for my nephews and A from Gifts and Crafted UK. I won’t be giving this to A this year as she’ll probably think its jewellery but gifts like these make it that much personal especially seeing your name on there.

Little Helpers
Children especially toddlers just love to get involved in the kitchen, right? Even when you don’t
want them too, why not use this opportunity to get them to help you. If you’re
making dough, get them to stir once or twice and announce that it was they who
actually made it, ask them to carry a spoon or similar lighter items to the
table for Iftaar. I understand that in some countries Iftaar will be past their
bedtime but they can still help to set the table before going to bed!
Most importantly, give
a lot of praises!
So these are my tips on how to help to get your children
involved in Ramadan. Do you have any tips to share, even if you don’t celebrate
Ramadan, how do you involve your children in other festivities? Please do share
below
