The Big Two! Toddler’s 24 month update

25 February 2019

Having a child truly teaches you how to appreciate the time. Within a blink it seems as if though that the little baby you had just given birth too is now a fully fledged toddler who’d like to run for the Olympics.

I always end up saying this but it’s true – I cannot believe I’m writing another update for A, the last update was three months ago but it doesn’t feel like that and now here we are for her big 2!

Honestly speaking, I am not entirely sure where the past two years have gone as it literally only feels like yesterday I had given birth to her.

She has come so far since her last update that she gives me a shock every single day. We had her two year health and development review last week and the Nursery Nurse was absolutely happy with her progress in all aspects especially her speech.

She has begun to form sentences- yes, there are many times when she speaks that sound like complete gibberish but of course that is all normal for her age but she does like to have a chat and be the centre of attention!

She can sing her favourite nursery rhymes and knows the A, B, C song, she is able to complete what comes after if she is in the right mood – she is so engrossed in her ABCs that when she sees any type of writing on paper or on the screen anywhere, she points and screams ‘ABC!’.

Some of this is down to YouTube.

I know what a controversial thing to do or say but if I am being totally honest, the screen time that she does have has actually helped her to develop educationally – I guess it just depends on how you utilise that screen time for your child.

Back in January she shocked us all by telling us her name when asked what it was. To be fair, I thought it was a fluke but it wasn’t as she now confidently tells her name whenever asked by anyone – the next thing I’d like to teach her is her age!

We’re still going strong in the breastfeeding department and have no plans of stopping so no change there to report!

Regarding her sleep, I won’t talk about it here as I’ve written an entire dedicated post on it if you are interested!

Lately, I have been off from work quite a bit due to annual leave that needs using up so I have been taking her to lots of different playgroups. It’s just amazing to watch her interact with other children, albeit sometimes needs prompting but she gets so happy and screams ‘baby!’ at every child she sees.

Even though, we do messy play at home, she was not exposed to the ‘messy’ of dedicated messy playgroups. So I took her to one and in the beginning, she was not interested in the sand but we eventually had her rolling in it!

It fascinates me that society puts so much emphasis on being ‘tidy’ and ‘clean’ and yet we are encouraged to have messy play as it is good for our children’s development!

We have also had to transition her to a new stroller which she absolutely adores. Even though, her original pram went up to 15kg which apparently is the average weight of a 3 year old, A is already weighing in at 14kg due to her height.

She is quite tall for a 2 year old the Nursery Nurse had also mentioned. Personally, I didn’t take much notice as she’s the first child I’ve been around properly so I just assumed she’s just average height and weight. However, I am not surprised as her dad and paternal side of the family are all very tall.

*~*~*

Indeed, there is so much that I’d love to have included but it wouldn’t be feasible. I can’t believe that this is it, I started writing quarterly updates for A since her first birthday and I am so glad that I did as it helps to have a bit of reflection and celebrate the little achievements and encourage myself that if something hasn’t happened yet it will in the future (sleep, I’m talking about you!!).

As we have reached A’s second birthday, I’m not going to be writing my quarterly updates anymore – this doesn’t mean there won’t be dedicated posts about A, of course there will be, this blog is solely  due to her.

However, I can see myself writing an update like this in maybe six months? We shall see how things go.

In the meantime, do look out for my new series coming soon ‘Mama and Toddler Loves’ a Motherhood/Lifestyle post every month reflecting on what we both have been enjoying in the past month!

Once again thank you for all the love and support you have given us, it is always appreciated!
