Dear Daughter: We Made It!

26 February 2018

Dear Daughter,

I cannot believe that I am actually writing this. You hit such a huge milestone this month, we both did actually and made it to a year!

Happy Birthday, my forever best friend.

As I write this, you are fast asleep by my side and I still cannot believe that you are here and that you are mine. You entered our lives and changed it for the better, we were stuck in the middle of a never ending thunderstorm, lost in the dark clouds until you came and brought out the rainbow and the sun.

I never thought I’d ever be able to be genuinely be happy again and smile without faking it, but you changed everything, you changed me and I am forever grateful to you for that.

This past year has flown past it seems like a whirlwind to me now. I didn’t expect it to fly past so quickly. I am not going to lie and say that it was filled with flowers and butterflies because it wasn’t, we struggled a lot, whether it was to do with sleeping or feeding, we struggled. But you know what? None of that matters because it’s all a part of life, without facing any obstacles we don’t find the better in us, we don’t gain strength, we don’t grow.

As you were growing up and capturing your milestones, I was too. I have learnt so much about the world, even about myself just by being with you. It’s as if though you are my teacher and I am your student – I didn’t know one could learn so much from a little human being.

But you’re not really little though, are you?

You may be little in size and age than all of us but you have this attractive big personality. I’m not normally the one to boast but I can loudly boast about you because I am so very proud of the little adventurous lady that you have become. You are always exploring, trying to attempt new things and even though I am proud, it does tire me out but I guess that’s your very own unique way in helping me keep fit when I don’t do so myself!

Sometimes, I wish you could grow up quickly so we can do this and that together but then again I want the time to slow down because you will only be this tiny for a little while, before I know it you will be all grown up and ready for the world. I love absolutely everything about you, even when you wake a thousand times at night, I love cuddling you because this is all I ever wanted. I hope you feel the same way about me too.

I call you my best friend and I pray that one day you will too, that I’ll be your best friend, your confide, your everything. I hope that we have a very special, an untouchable bond just like how it is now. There is so much that I can say, I want to say but don’t have the right words. Just know, my dear daughter, that no matter what, I will always love you.

Thank you for being you, thank you for coming into my life and changing it for the better.
Happy Birthday, Princess.
