Hello World!

28 June 2021

Here I am again, don’t be so shocked to see me because I’m here to stay. I reckon a 10 month break has been enough, right?

Where have I been?

No where!

It’s been difficult to go anywhere with COVID19 lingering around and lockdowns after lockdowns. The only reason for this unintentional break is just life and not having the motivation to just sit down and get writing again.

But deep down, I missed it.

I started blogging on New Years Day 2018 – I still vividly remember writing that first ever post, in the middle of the night, as the fireworks erupted outside, with a 10 month old by my side.

Even though, I enjoyed blogging,  I think the main mistake that I made was putting so much pressure on myself. I gave myself a schedule to post every Monday and Friday – it was fine at first, no problem.

However, a couple of months down the line, it started to feel like a drag. I knew something was wrong when the schedule started to feel like a chore and myself a robot – this wasn’t why I created a blog, I made one to share my experiences, I made one to make myself happy!

As time went on, I rarely posted unless there was something pressing to talk about and now here I am.

What else have I been up to?

I’m still in my NHS job, full time 9 to 5, the only difference is I’m working from home due to the pandemic. The work from home life is definitely appealing at first but I find that there is no balance – maybe because I am a Mum?

Navigating new single parenthood, being on call at work and taking care of the little one at the same time has at times been proven to be a challenge. Although Aazeen starting nursery last September for half days has definitely helped but it is literally having your mind all over the place and remembering that you are still answerable at work if your work is a little delayed (yawn!).

Yes, I now have help from my parents but when your child wants just you, there’s no stopping that! I won’t go into more detail about the work from home life because that honestly deserves a post for itself!

In other news, I’ve also ventured into unknown territory and opened up my own shop! I know like I didn’t have enough on my plate already, eh? But this is something I had always wanted to do, to have something of my own.

So late last year, Zeen and Me was born.

As you can probably tell by the name, it’s inspired by my daughter – just a little something I’ve been putting together to encourage the love of reading in children but equally importantly self care for parents.

Undoubtedly, the past year has brought a lot of change in my life and I thought it was about time this blog got some attention too.

Why the name change?

My blog along with all of my socials were under the name of The Mum Affairs – but I slowly felt myself fall out of love with that title. Time to time I’d think about changing the name but we all know what a big decision that tends to be.

One day, whilst sipping my tea and watching Aazeen cause her usual chaos, ‘a little cup of us’ just sprang to mind and it felt just right – you know just like when you’re trying to name your baby and come across a name that just clicks? That kind of feeling.

So that’s it, really!

I’m pretty sure some of you are thinking ‘she’ll disappear again…’

But I’m definitely here to stay whether you believe it or not – because if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have given it all a makeover and actually bought a freaking domain and gone self hosted, eh? But that’s another exciting story for another day.

What’s the longest break you have taken from blogging? Don’t forget to leave your links below, I’m looking forward to reading more and more blogs!

Welcome back! The longest break I’ve taken from blogging was probably about two years, I came back to it by starting a new blog but also picked up my old blog as well. That was about 2 and half years ago and I’ve been pretty consistent since then although I don’t stick to a strict schedule to keep the pressure off. #fortheloveofblog

Sometimes a big break is exactly what we need to feel better again and get back into the Passion of writing. Well done on opening your own shop! That’s amazing, I wish you all the luck with it. I think the longest break I’ve ever taken has been 5 months after a miscarriage, I needed the time away to fall back in love with my passion of blogging.

I take all the school holidays off – sometimes for up to 8 weeks. It doesn’t matter that much. I just do it for me now so there’s very little pressure….#FortheloveofBLOG

Welcome back. Sometimes we all need a break. I took a year out a while back and it definitely helped me to find the pleasure in blogging when I returned.
